The story of "Headlight" an immature Broadwing Hawk.

Take me back to the home page.

Hawk holding on to the truck. Hawk looks wedged. Kelly holds hawk.
Kelly gently gets the talons off grill. Kelly manipulates claws. Michelle gently holds Headlight.

Kelly and Michelle were walking out of the West Marine Store in Marathon after shopping for MWBC's supplies, when a bystander pointed out to them a bird on the grill of a truck. It looked like the bird was dead but it wasn't, nor was the bird wedged or stuck on the truck's grill but holding on for dear life with its talons! Kelly firmly but gently pried each claw from the grill. The hawk was in a coma-like condition for 3 days. It sustained head injuries and lost some vision in one eye. He did learn to compensate and was released after 2 months of rehab at the MWBC.

"Good luck, Headlight - please keep clear of highways and roads."
